Nino de Ricardo (1904-1974) is usually called Nino Ricardo, but we hold to the ''de'' since he was the son of amateur guitarist Ricardo Serrapi; his Christian name was Manuel. His career was both commonplace and exceptional, beginning in the cafes, cabarets and fiestas in the province of Seville, and then later at the demand of the greatest and most famous players, such as La Nina de los peines (with whom he made his first record in 1924), Cepero, Conchita Piquer, Pepe Marchera, Caracol and Antonio Mairena, with whom he made his last record. He gave solo concerts later in the 1950s, especially in France and Belgium, and made very few recordings as a soloist, including one LP for Le Chant du Monde in 1955 (which is reissued here in its entirety, considering its rarity) and for Hispavox (from which a selection is included here).
