DHT degrades hair follicles and Testosterone into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) through enzymes called 5 α reductases. DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, resulting in thinner hair and shorter growth phase. The degree and rate at which hair is lost depends upon the genetic sensitivity to DHT. Men with Androgenic Alopecia typically have higher levels of 5 α reductases receptors, resulting in higher levels of DHT.
